Kenya – Kiangundo AB
Blackberry, Vanilla, Nutmeg
The local growing conditions, processing practices and the varietal characteristics of the SL-28 and SL-34 arabica varieties all contribute to this classic Kenyan profile. Harvested around the town of Karatina, on the eastern side of Mount Kenya, this coffee is light, bright and complex.
The Kiama Farmer’s Cooperative Society has four factories (wet mills): Gachuiro, Ichuga, Kiamaina and Kiangundo. The cooperative has 24 permanent staff who are supported by the seasonal workers during coffee processing season.
The Kiangundo factory has 690 active members, 170 of those females. The region is highly productive, with multiple farming activities that include dairy, horticultural, tea and macadamia nuts. The factory is located on the Eastern side of Mount Kenya National Park, about 8 km from the town of Karatina. The main crop is harvested in October through December and a fly crop in April through June each year.
