China – Aqi Badu

One of our favourite coffees from last year is back.

This Natural Catimor was processed at the Banka farm and predominantly grown and harvested in the Aqi Badu village by the Lahu – an ethnic group that lives across China, Myanmar, Laos and Thailand.

Expect a layered, sweet and juicy cup with a cacao aftertaste.

Roaster's Notes

This is our second year working with Aqi Badu coffee - once again, sourced via our partners at Indochina who continue bringing in delicious Asian coffees to Europe, despite all the recent difficulties.

Indochina have been working in partnership with Yunnan Coffee Traders since they first began importing coffees to the UK in 2016 and have been an integral part in the increased awareness and interest in Chinese coffee.

In 2018, YCT took over the management of the Banka wet mill and a portion of the Banka farm (some 100 hectares of land), installing one of the region’s first optical sorters and experimenting with processing methods such as yeast fermentation and growing new varieties such as Pacamara and Yellow Bourbon.

This Aqi Badu micro lot was run through a wet optical colour sorter and fermented in cherry for two days. After fermentation it was spread and dried on raised beds.
